Translation

Duryodhana said:
And many other heroic warriors stand here,
ready to give up their lives for my sake,
armed with many weapons,
and all skilled in the art of warfare.

Detailed meaning

Having named the leaders, he gestures to the rest: many more heroes, armed and experienced. The key phrase is mad-arthe, “for my sake”.

The Pandavas’ allies were introduced by name and quality. Duryodhana describes his own army by what it will sacrifice for him. Without intending to, he admits that this war is about his own claim, and that many lives are being placed in its service.

Reflection

When certainty collapses,
fear starts counting people.
Not to solve the problem—
but to feel less alone.

When certainty begins to collapse, fear starts counting who will remain.
In Bhagavad Gita Shloka 1.9, Duryodhana speaks of the many heroic warriors standing on his side.
He describes them as armed with many weapons, skilled in warfare and ready to give up their lives for his sake.
His attention is no longer only on their power.
It is also on their willingness to stand with him.

And honestly... many of us do the same.
When life feels uncertain, we begin wondering who will truly remain.
We count the people who support us.
We look for signs of loyalty in their words, presence and actions.
We begin measuring how much they care—and how far they would go for us.
Not because this resolves what we fear, but because knowing we will not face it alone makes the fear feel easier to carry.

This shloka reminds us

Sometimes fear does not seek certainty.
It seeks reassurance that it will not have to face everything alone.
When fear cannot find certainty, it begins measuring who will stay.

Ask yourself

When life feels uncertain, do you find yourself wondering who will truly stand beside you?
Sometimes fear does not seek certainty.
It seeks reassurance
that it will not face everything alone.
